"Atomic" Design

Welcome to 1950's and ‘60’s America - known as "The Atomic Age". It began with the splitting of the atom and culminated in the obsession with all things nuclear.

This infused the entire popular culture at the time. Everything from clocks, to hotels, to barware. Remember Barkcloth? The Boomerang Table? The Jetsons? Some of these pieces drew inspiration from the structure of the atom itself, using visual representations of the atom as a motif. One of the most famous of these is the 1949 George Nelson Ball Clock, still being reproduced today:
