Many of the mid-century pottery pieces that we see are called "California Pottery". This is not an actual company, but rather references pottery made in Southern California during its heyday from about the 1920's through the 1950's. Look for the marks on the bottom on the pottery that say Cal., Calif., California, etc. Often, there is also a number or USA or even a handwritten signature.
This pottery is often very colorful with dramatic design. Some of the best known potteries are Bauer, Catalina Island, Metlox and Pacific, but when acquiring California Pottery pieces, just pick according to aesthetics rather than a specific pottery - they all are wonderful!
Here are a few examples of California Pottery we have in our shop.
